Bonita Springs Myofascial Release

The John F Barnes’ Myofascial Release approach is safe, gentle and consistently effective in producing positive and lasting results. Myofascial Release is a very effective hands on technique which provides sustained pressure into myofascial restrictions to eliminate pain, headaches and to restore motion. To understand this brand of therapy it is important to know what the fascia is.

”Myo” refers to muscle, and “fascia” to the elastic web of connective tissue that ties your body together. Muscles and fascia work together to support your body and facilitate movement. Trauma or inflammation can create a binding down of fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, and organs. Most people suffering with pain, headaches, and lack of motion are suffering from fascial restrictions which go undiagnosed because standard tests such as x-rays and CAT scans do not show the fascial restrictions. Myofascial release techniques relieve tension and pain by releasing and lengthening both muscles and fascia.

In the normal healthy state, the fascia has the ability to stretch and move without restriction. If a trauma happens to the body then the fascia may become ‘glued’ to the muscle and loses its flexibility. It becomes very tight, and can be a source of tension to the rest of the body. This can lead to many problems. Muscles will not move properly, organs may be shifted to incorrect positions, blood vessels may be restricted and muscle and bone connections may be obstructed.

Myofascial release is remarkably effective because it addresses a whole region, not just one area in isolation. Releasing fascia requires a sensitive and slow approach. The therapy is quite relaxing in itself as the process is quite gentle, and you may think not much is happening. As you relax, I will apply long, smooth, deliberate strokes and extended stretches to your tissues. Interwoven like threads in fabric, fascia supports and covers everything in your body. Fascia is essential for the proper function of muscles and other moving parts such as joints and tendons .You may find relief not only from temporary tightness, but from long held tension as well. Without the pull of tight fascia, muscles can stay lengthened and in balance with each other. People often notice that they have increased comfort and mobility which is long-lasting and unattainable with other forms of therapy.

Clients are treated on a multi-dimensional level, including the physical, emotional, mental, and energetic levels. When there has been physical trauma or long-held stress and tension, an emotional element may be involved. Releasing tension can sometimes cause feelings to be brought up. My advanced training in this therapy allows me to be aware of this component and how to support and assist you throughout your session. Some people may notice soreness afterward, especially with the first treatment. This is similar to the temporary soreness that can result from exercise and drinking water is essential after your session.
